Honey, could you recommend any good porn sites for me?

Couple sitting on sofa talking over a cup of coffee

You know how it goes when you’re looking for advice on something- you run the idea by a buddy, and sometimes what you hear is, “Have you run that by your wife?” That is a wise response from one who knows the value of a woman’s insight. A woman gives you another angle at something that can’t originate inside a male brain.

Now imagine asking your wife: “Honey, could you recommend any good porn sites for me?”

How’s that sound? Ludicrous?

Most of us would be ashamed to tell our wives about our escapades with porn. If we use the stuff, we hide it, or at least most men do (some don’t).

The hiding aspect of porn

Imagine your son hiding something from you. Let’s say he’s keeping it a secret because he fears he will lose that certain thing if you knew he had it. Isn’t that like us? Grown men- hiding our porn from our wife, our friends, our pastor.

By the way, what do you think is going on in a woman’s spiritual and mental world when her husband hides his habit?

God sees it all

Porn affects our relationship with our wife and kids. It affects our relationship with God. Yet we still cling to our idols. Maybe it hurts God, how we try to keep things in the dark. Maybe he just turns away with a shake of his mighty head.

What kind of value do you place on staying close to your God?

Why not carve out a little more time to just hang out with Him? Even to talk to Him about things like this. He would slip some things into your ear that would empower you.

I read an article where Jesse Duplantis talked about the closeness he enjoys with God. He said that his walk with God is vastly different than the shallowness of some men whose experience with God doesn’t go much further than ‘the weekly church thing’. He tells of being able to relate to God as his Lord as well as his companion- even being able to hear God joke with him!

Nothing can satisfy the need but that which created the need (God). Lust is never satisfied- it always needs more, and more, and more.

“Childish toys”, I really like that description; perfect description. It’s a constant battle, but we are overcomers through Christ!

Amen, Duane. We are overcomers. The freedom and energy of leaving the porn drug behind far outweighs the hooks and weights. Do you agree?
