Have you changed your camera lens?

Have you changed your camera lens (the one on your brain)?

The human eye- that marvelous organ- has a lense on it not unlike a camera. It receives signals from your eyeballs and helps your brain make sense of what you see.

What does a lens do anyway?

According to Wikipedia, the role of a camera lens is to “correct the many optical aberrations that arise in the photographic process of making of images out of objects. It is the job of the lens designer to balance these out and produce a design that is suitable for photographic use.”

God is the lens designer  for the human body. Without a conscious thought from you, the eye functions to correct or make sense of the images that enter your line of vision before they are sent for further analysis to your brain.

Liken the optical aberrations to images that disrupt your fellowship with God.

In a ‘real’ camera, the lens functions like a pinhole which blocks out most rays of light, ideally selecting one ray to fixate the object. Wikipedia adds, “Lenses can be thought of as an answer to the question ‘how can we modify a pinhole lens to admit more light and give a smaller spot size?’ ”

Back to our analogy, the smaller spot is your wife, who is supposed to be your source of sexual stimulation. The light is God’s word. The pinhole is the size, or scope, of sexual imagery you allow into our minds.

It’s your job to limit the imagery

It is your job to install filters and stops on what imagery you allow to make it through your brain.

The secret to doing that lies in God’s word. Take a Saturday morning sometime and do a word search on lust. You’ll be amazed at the amount of info you will find, from King David and his son’s challenges in the book of Kings, to Solomon (Mr. Concubine), to Job, and Paul.

man shooting himself in the footLearn how to operate within the limits. Otherwise you’re shooting yourself in the foot.

Different lens, different perspective

The lens you are born with- the lens of the flesh- needs upgrading. Operating without the proper lens on our eye is like using the wrong tool for a repair job. The Holy Spirit gives the right lens, and he will guide you and warn you and stop you and prompt you and work with you.

It may look ugly at first. Getting the focus off of the world and onto our wife is a disciplined process.

A funny thing happened on the way to…purity

Getting the right lens on makes us begin to see a lot of things differently. We begin to recognize women as daughters of God, not pieces of meat. And lining up with God’s plan yields God’s results, such as increased joy and peace in our lives.

Replacing our lens brings about odd and wonderful things in our life. Would you believe your wife will appeal to you more and more? It’s true- it happens- but you won’t see it until you make it work.

Freedom is sometimes just simply another perspective away

from the Kutless song “Perspectives”:

Yesterday, you really couldn’t see.
By changing your angle a new world would be
Revealed to your once blinded eyes by moving a few degrees

Why can’t you see that freedom is sometimes just simply another perspective away?
Who could you be if your lens was changed for a moment,
Would you still be the same?
